Cricket Auction Rules Explained (IPL Style)
1. The Auction Purse
Every team starts with a fixed budget, known as the purse. If a team spends its entire purse, it cannot bid on any more players, even if it has empty squad slots. In our IPL-style auction software, organizers can apply 'Boosters' or 'Penalties' to adjust a team's purse mid-tournament.
2. Player Retention
Before the auction begins, teams are often allowed to retain a certain number of players from the previous season. The cost of retaining these players is deducted from their starting purse.
3. Right to Match (RTM)
The RTM card allows a team to match the highest bid for a player they didn't retain. If Team A bids the highest for a player, the team holding that player's RTM card gets a prompt to match that exact amount and keep the player.
4. Bidding Increments
Auctions use incremental bidding to save time. For example, bids might increase by ₹10,000 up to ₹1 Lakh, and then increase by ₹20,000 after that. The software calculates this automatically, preventing human error.
